  • Back to car shopping - Need some ideas

Alright, so I am going to be selling my Lexus soon because I drive 50 miles a day for work and I need something cheaper to run all the time. I am looking for something sporty with a nice aftermarket, preferably stick shift, decent on gas (as long as it gets more than 23 city/28hwy ill be happy), cheaper to insure and everything. Looking around $3000US. Had a scare in the Lexus today when I almost got in a wreck and I figured it cant keep being a commuter because they day I wreck it, they are going to write it off and give me BS money for it.

So what do you guys suggest? I have found things like a 2001 Volvo 2.9L S80 turbo and all kinds of different things, but ive had 32 cars now, looking for one to last and I have never really bought a car because its sensible, ive always bought on impulse.

Obviously I don't know how much $3000 is or what can be purchased over there. However if I could buy gas (petrol) at the price you could, I would just go and buy a mustang or something equally fuel guzzling.

LOL! Well... $3000 US is 1777GBP... I am looking on phoenix.craigslist.org/cto and I cant really find much that I actually like.... I have found a thing here or there but I look at something reasonable and move on but I find myself looking at unconventional crap and lots of projects....

With VW I am always concerned because people here run them till they are absolutely knackered. Not to mention I hear they are CEL hell, so ive always steered clear.

Although... I wouldnt kick this one out of bed: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/cto/4591541407.html

Ford? Yuck! lol The 1966 owner clearly doesnt know his rectum from a golf hole. Power steering squealing means it needs a new pump? Man Ive always only done the belt and any applicable tensioner....

As for the GT, thats not too bad, but I bet it sucks a ton of gas down. The V6 mustangs barely get decent MPG. Ford cant build an engine, they always sacrifice. If its powerful, its got rubbish mpg. If its economical, its unreliable. If its reliable, and economical, it couldnt power a lawn trimmer, etc.

I dont miss that lol I used to have a supercharged 1989 GT that had 780hp. got 7mpg, Vortec said with their ignition I could get up to 11mpg, so I put it on and dropped to 5. Went back to MSD LOL!

I have one lol it sits in a storage unit in pieces... I have most of a 1970 Charger. Flagship 400ci (before it was actually introduced 100% in 1972 so its a bored up 383ci with a bigger stroke) so its only got like 380hp stock... but mine has heads and a cam, intake, bigger carb, etc... Lots of bits. I just never touch any of it.

Where they dont rape us with taxes, they get us in fuel. anywhere from 7-15% of our petrol is E85 to drop our mpgs so big oil can keep lining their pockets.

Say gas is 8GBP a gallon (its anywhere from 8-11 Euro in Germany), thats 13.50 USD. But. If I paid in GBP here, at gas being $3.45/gal (which its actually 9/10ths of a gallon) is 2.04GBP. But you guys probably make anywhere from 10GBP up. Here minimum wage is $7.95 (I think, idk havnt worked for that table scraps in a while) so its half an hour of work, just for one gallon of gas. I pay $3.75 for premium (91 octane) and I use at least 2 gallons a day between work and home, and picking up my daughter, not to mention if I go out and grab food or whatever else. So in one day, I use more in gas than most people here make an hour.

I want something cheaper since my girlfriends income is about to drop substantially because she will only be working 3 days a week and she might need surgery on her hand, all bills are going to be on me soon. So im going to take over $600/mo ontop of my current bills.... not ideal lol
