  • Rear wheel drive, sub 1000, quickish

My kit car idea has been put on the back burner until I can afford to buy a full kit or a caterham

So I want a summer track, so far I can think of a 328i or an MR2.

I dont car about how the interior looks as it'll be getting stripped. I will probably keep road legal for ease so cant be anything written off or MOT fail.

The plan will be to strip it orginal, then probably sink way to much money into to tinkering with it therefore if it can be increase in power cheaply even better.

He did say quickish, MR2s aren't exactly fast. My MX5 is around the same level in terms of 0-60, and it isn't quick but it is a lot of fun.

It depends whether you want flat out acceleration/straight line speed or something with a bit more to it.

The rawness of the MX5 and sitting low to the ground makes it feel like you're going faster than you actually are anyway lol.

Mr2 straight line speed isnt exactly bad but show it corners and it will be quicker than most
Re rawness mr2 is the same, got a screeming engine behind you and you sit on the floor too, it's awesome

As dannyboy said, the handling characteristics mean you can carry so much speed through corners. I garuntee an MR2 will outperform an MX5 on track.

I have the mr2 weight as a round 1,200kg? Is there took to lose a lot? Say to down to 900kg?

Also how much am I looking at for a turbo?

                  Onto the mx5, what's the power/weight like?

                    MX5 is pretty light.

The early 1.6 like mine is 115bhp and weighs under a tonne.

Is there a more powerful version?

I quite like the look of them but they seem a bit under powered, I'm hoping for 200bhp per tonne

There's a 1.8 but it weighs a little more. The bhp/tonne is about the same for both (~125).
