  • Insurance group question

Been looking at new Cars and their insurance groups to see what cars are similar to my subaru, but when I spoke to my current insurer the woman told me that the insurance groups on Cars are different for each company :/

I can kind of understand why but then I don't see the point of cars being put into groups if they are going to vary from company to company, anyone shed any light on this? Maybe tim?

It plays a factor. But even though I jumped a much higher group I paid same price with some adjustments and shopping around.

It played a small factor in my quotes it felt to me in comparison of 25/FC/1YL/1NCB

Totally different prices from different companies sometimes over one detail or car type. Logic well out the window I thought.

Yeah it seems a bit daft tbh, the reason she told me the above was because I got a quote on 2 similar cars (passat tdi 130 sport and passat tdi 100 s) and the 100 s was 269 a month and the 130 sport was 162 a month :/ so then I said how does that work because the 130 was a higher insurance group

She said all cars are different for each insurer as that particular insurer may of had more claims etc on that car rather than the other (which obviously makes sense) but still makes the insurance group system seem pointless

They blamed insurance group for a huge price increase when I wanted the vectra. Just went elsewhere... Often found them blaming groups but it's always just stats based. Hang in there as long as you can... Wish I did lol.

Yeah it's a bit **** tbh, really want a car I have seen but insurance will do up 33quid each month (only got 3 month left on policy) but elsewhere it would be 65 quid cheaper a month (but will have the initial big payment)

            Insurance groups are pointless tbh

Probably have some historical use but none now (may still be used by companies that offer manual ratings)
