  • Towing with Corsa 1.2

    Hi all.

New to these forums so apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.

I have got a Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 Excite 3Dr [ac] Petrol Hatchback, I am thinking of getting a small trailer tent which would be a maximum weight of 500KG.

Would my car be suitable for towing this trailer?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me, have a good day

What year is it? We may be able to look up towing limits (although they're in the handbook also, if you have that)

Hi, thanks for your reply. Its a 2015 Corsa. The handbook says it can tow up to 750KG braked - I am looking at a trailer tents which is braked and weighs a max of 500kg fully laden.

I am wondering if the car will be powerful enough on hills, etc. and also if I am risking doing any damage to the car - its vital for getting me to work!

It should be OK if the manufacturer says it's within limits. I'd imagine stop/start on hills would be more stressful, but if you're already moving you have some momentum behind you. Stopping and then pulling away uphill might be a bit more strain so I'd avoid that when possible, perhaps hold gears for longer than normal in this kind of scenario.

500KG on a trailer on the flat probably isn't a huge problem, even us mere humans are able to move a trailer with relative ease as it's not really requiring 500KG of force, especially once it's already in motion.
