Idle control valves on both engines can cause problems and the 1.4 suffers with coil pack problems so the car will cut out and not start, drive quite jerky. Both can be solved with new parts which are fairly inexpensive.
Possibly other issues but this is what I've come across with mates cars before.

Seat adjusters fall off the seat often.
Problems with seizing brake calipers, wheel cylinders and bias valves. (pulls all over the road under heavy braking)

For that money you could probably pick up a relatively decent focus mk1. More reliable and safer.

All 206's in the area are a bit ropey tbh. The search is expanding...
Just an example though; the point is there is a lot more available for that money.

the wifes had one for past 2 years and its had quite a few regular ware and tare problems like bushes exhaust ect but never had any real problems with it. its quite nice to drive too. just look for the normal things you would look for when buying a car.. its certainly been more reliable than any of the corsas I've owned, just treat it to regular oil changes to keep it from becoming tappy on the top end and make sure the belt had been changed and I'm sure itl be fine.Take a look, Its old and rusty[URL="http://www.thecorsa.co.uk/projects-builds/182-zetec-powered-mk1-fiesta.html"]

Just realised, I've been thinking of a 106 this whole time. My bad.
