    Regfo's Traitor EE80 Corolla

    Hey guys,

Some of you may remember me from allcorsa? I just thought I'd upload my Traitor thread first as it's the only car I have recent photos of.

Now some of you may be wondering what the hell this car is? It's an EE80 Toyota Corolla Liftback, The car was made in 1983 so sadly not tax exempt. But the car has had three owners from the factory, first two owners where a mother and father in the same family. Funnily enough the car only has 83K miles on it which isn't to bad for this old car.

Another bit of history research is this car is the FWD brother of the AE86 Levin, and that there are two versions of this car my version being the EE80 which is a 1.3 single cam and carbed and the AE82 with the popular 4AGE that comes in the old SW20 MR2's and AE86 sprinters.

I picked up this car for mere 50 and 50 for a car transporter from London to Luton. Even though some people would consider this quite an odd car I loved it due to the classic feel and the opportunities this car has as there are now very few of these in england. And out of all the cars I have driven so far in my life, this has to be the most funnest ever. And if anybody has ever driven an old toyota or been/heard their old motors you would know how amazing they sound!

I have quite a lot of plans for this car as it will be going halfsies restore, and will go for a more updated engine as sourcing even a gasket is far too difficult.

    so the plans are:
    Full strip out
Remove front windscreen due to rust behind window that is welded on (IF Breaks, which hopefully it won't I will make a 6mm Polycarbonate window as the cheapest window i get get is $800 from australia...)
    Dump Engine
    Derust and Weld
    Respray to white
Convert Fuel tank to In tank fuel pump (as the mechanical fuel pump is going to be a ***** for EFI)
Find and buy a 4AFE 1.6 engine or 7AFE 1.8 engine both from an old Toyota Celica. (Or even a 4AGE if one comes up cheap) (not much power difference from the 1.6 to 1.8, a mere 10hp from the stock 105hp)
    Custom Coilovers
Big brake upgrade and rear disks from an AE101
Anti rollbars and AE82 Front Strut bar
Remake and weld exhaust (Current exhaust is 2inch straight through, No CAT)
Wide classic jap wheels or may go for some Enkei 92 Wheels

Then hopefully it'll be done and ready for shows in less then a year or two!

Some photos to go along with:

When I first got it on the drive,

I then made a start with the interior.

Then took a break and got the front started.

One ****ty rust point which is going to be difficult to repair.

Then got the interior fully stripped too.

    Some pretty iffy rust spots.

Rust behind window as I said, Can't be removed without having to take out the window...

Random shot and Nice and clean behind rear bumper. Funnily enough the car has independant rear suspension which is a new area for me driving wise.

And now dash is out (Recent photo, sorry about darkness I was still working to get the dash out before 10pm)

This to me is a fun project and in all no point's a serious thing, It'll be my first engine change and will be quite a car for a learning curve and making custom parts. And really, I'm just doing it because I love being different, and seeing one of these done up surely won't be seen around.

And also some more info, the car failed it's last MOT Due to sill rust, Which I haven't located myself yet.. But Before then it never failed.

I've got people in the family who have the trait, but I'm also doing night classes myself to learn how to do it myself

But body repair/Painting and panel beating I'm quite good at so it won't be too difficult, Most probably the difficult part will be welding new engine mounts if I want to go something other then the A engines!

But I have considered going all out sleeper and going with a popular engine you may know about Dave. A 3SGE non turbo with a Celica GTS gearbox and front end, Or if possible see if the MR2 Box will fit right as there are rumors it will.

Looks interesting, loving the amount of older cars that are popping up for restoration at the moment. Engine wise look into the 4age 20v blacktop, itbs as standard good for about 160hp without to much modification and rev like crazy.

edit, just realised you've already mentioned the 4age in your first post.

3SGE's are strong as tbh, I don't know about the others you've mentioned but I'd definately recommend a 3sge. Could always think about running a mr2 turbo box. Come with an LSD standard...

    Good luck with it

for ease of fit id go 4age, then add a turbo. theres parts everywhere and pistons off the shelf. and theyre lighter in the front of these.

I did think about a Silvertop or Blacktop, But some of those go for well over 600 quid on ebay, Which is a bit tight at the moment But a simple Bluetop 16v 4AGE is good enough for me

As I have moved onto my second year of college, My tutors decided it would be better for me to go on their motorsports course, which itself including learning welding (Rollcages and shizz) But i also asked if I can take private lessons to gain a bit more skill, So I'm not really going to a specific company to learn.

I was debating on stick with the MR2 box, but there's A lot of people who say about having to mount the other way around or having trouble with gearlinkages and having to have custom drive shafts possibly, Will have to do some proper research onto it all.

Would you know if the AW11 Gearbox would fit?

Those are the only engines I can find recently, and wouldn't be to sure on weather the gearbox would be a straight fit.

aw11 uses the same box as an ae82. so it will fit but you need ae82 mounts.

    gearbox codes:
    http://www.ae82.net/showthread.php?736-gearbox-database

to find the code, use the katashiki plate:
    Regfo's Traitor EE80 Corolla-toyota_vin_plate_novin.jpg

notice the bottom line has c/tr/a/tm, tm is transmission, in this case g52 (alloy case 5 speed from a hilux.)

do you know the differences in the 4age engines?

    Thanks for the info,

And the only sort of 4age 16v engines that I know of are the Redlettered and Bluelettered tops which is the difference of comps + one uses a TVIS intake I believe, and also the Redlettered tops are more popular on FWD only cars, but the bluetops could be found in the old MR2's, But I don't know much about the 20V version 4age's.

I did hope you were going to comment Rob as I know these are far more popular is aus.

Go over to turbosport.co.uk and message a guy called mk1deano. He's a friend of mine putting a 4age in his escort and knows pretty much everything you will need to know about 20v4ages.
Take a look, Its old and rusty[URL="https://www.thecorsa.co.uk/projects-builds/182-zetec-powered-mk1-fiesta.html"]

    there are 4 16v motors:

    red-top
    blacktop
    bluetop
    silvertop

in the uk your most likely to find a red or blue. the difference is head casting, and cams. a bit of google throws this out:
    Bill Sherwood's Stock 4AGE Page

the 20v uses 2 types black and silver.

So the project has ground to even more of an halt now, I had the Engine ready to come out till I noticed a day after that there is a huge 30cm+ Crack in the windshield That has spread from One of the main rust spots that was located under the window, And was one of the points of attempting to remove the window to fix that problem, But it looks like the Problem has Happened before I could get to it properly.

So now I've got to debate weather it's going to be worth it to keep going along with this car, A brand new windshield would have to be shipped from Australia Or I could go down the polycarbonate route, But Both ways will still end up being pretty expensive.

If I break the Car, Probably All money will be part saving for an XE for the corsa.

I Didn't think Autoglass repaired cracks? Ill Give them a call to see if it's do-able, Or I may as well continue to take out the whole windshield, and if it comes out in one, Then I would probably see if it's doable once it's back in.

I wouldn't want to have it repaired, Only for it's to possibly break again when I'm taking it out for repair of rust underneath it.
