    Traitor Cars 2 & 3 - Ford Escort 1.6 16v and Ford Fiesta 1.25 16v - Daily Runaround!

OK, so as the boys in staff are aware, I've made a few hefty decisions.

The Mazda will be going very soon (will be up for sale for ?5750 or near offer to anyone on here, ?6k no offers elsewhere) to be replaced with something a bit special - the reasoning being that if I'm going to be spending extreme amounts of money on petrol (16-18mpg the way I drive!) I might as well do it in a car that turns heads and goes like the clappers!

I can afford the insurance, tax and upkeep on something much better so why not! The RX8 is very quick, has amazing handling and looks stunning especially in the red colour mine is, but I want more! More info on the new car when I get closer to buying...

So for now, the Mazda will be used primarily for fun drives and the odd long journey. It will save me money on petrol, which will go towards the new car and my mortgage/deposit fund! Will also keep the mileage really low to help aid the sale in future.

Therefore my daily "drive-to-work" car will be this...

1993 Ford Escort 1.6 LX 16v. 113,000 miles but drives like it's only done 13k! I love it already, but before anyone asks there will be no modding, just general upkeep and creature comforts (fitted mats, flat wipers etc).

Opinions are welcome, but as said this wont really be much of a project thread!

My opinion is, get an Evo 10, and tell me what they're like.

Nothing wrong with an old escort at all, a sound and very safe purchase, upkeep bills will literally be zero.

Keen to here more on the new car sam...

He's lucky then, my brother had 3 of them in various guises. 1.6, 1.8, GTi. Now they're pretty good cars, but they don't by any shot feel like brand new. Ford gears always feel loose to me, and the steering not very responsive, however they're old cars, so it is to be expected.

I would however own one, as I love old Fords.

i remember the launch slating these got. but actually zetec ones are awesome. good drive, revvy, and good on fuel. heres a tip they share the brakes with the mk3 fiesta. try to find some mondeo disks and calipers and pads iirc. the only issues on them are the rear brake cylinders dying and clutch pedal quadrants breaking. oh and cambelts dying if left unchanged.

IMO the only plus side of these is that you can get a good one for about 300 quid.

I had one of those - brand new - it did all of 50 yards before it broke.

But to be fair if you get an old one that works it's simple cheap motoring.
