    Corsa CDTi 1.3 Knocking

    Hi All,

Just purchased myself a 2004 1.3 CDTi SXi Corsa which has done 91k miles. I noticed that under low revs there seems to be some sort of what I can only describe as a knocking noise coming from the airbox area.

I've recorded the sound in this video - it's more obvious towards the end as I put it in gear and release the clutch. But as you can hopefully hear, as soon as it goes over 1000 revs, it stops. It only seems that there's a knocking under low revs when pulling off and idling.

Has anyone got any idea what it may be?

    Thanks in advance,

    Dan.

Not a lot I can hear from that video clip - it would be better if recorded in the engine bay.

I'd suspect it's the timing chain from what little I can hear, but the best way to check is to use a long metal bar - put one end to your ear and the other end to the timing chain area (and then other parts of the engine) and you'll be able to hear what's going on internally. Obviously be careful of moving parts.
