    1.7 DTi Fuel pump

Right, I'm looking into buying a new car, preferably not a corsa. Don't worry I'm still keeping my beast (lol).
The car I have found is at my mates work. It's a 1.7 DTi Astra Estate. It's had a 'new' engine put in that has done 68k, but it needs a new fuel pump.

I was speaking to my step-dad about it and he seems to think that fuel pumps on this engine are digital? Now I thought they only had these in the common rail diesel engines as they are electronically controlled, which makes sense. However, he said after 1995 nearly all diesels have digital fuel pumps. They need to be programmed and this can cost in excess of 700?!

I had a brief look around the interwebs and didn't find anything of use. Anyone have any kind of idea on this matter? Is it a viable option just to get a new fuel pump and fit it? Or is it beyond economical repair?

Seen as I'm only going to be paying 200 or the car and that's it's only fault... The cars sell for around 800-1500 on AutoTrader so if I can get this sorted then it should be a nice and cheap car?

    Thanks in advance.

Oh God. I'm guessing it's going to be expensive?

Not worth getting the car then? Or should I buy a DTi with a working fuel pump and put that in?

Went to have a look at the car, bump started it as the starter motor is gone.

Runs fine, just is over fueling. Turns out it still has the original fuel pump, might try and fit that when i get it and see what happens. If not I'll get the car anyway, and break it for parts. Seen 1.7 DTi engines sell for 200 on eBay.
