Exclamation Engine and Air Intake Advice

Hi everyone who recognises me from all corsa.Questions i have are;How do i find out what type of engine i have?(what i mean is people say things like c20let and c20xe. Newbie to cars really)Second thing is about moding my engine. Was wondering what people recomend to do?Iv gathered from reading that induction kits are pointless.I can de-restricty air intake as shown here:https://www.thecorsa.co.uk/mechanical...airbox.htmlAnd i can drill my filter box too! (cant find a tutorial, propably not looking properly)What else can i do?Dont want to swap engines or boar the engine! Is drilling the box mot, etc.... legal?Dale

The engine code should be stamped on the engine block on the front right of it as you look at the engine from the front of the car.

Derestricting and drilling the airbox is completely legal and it will pass the MOT. Induction kits generally aren't recommended for a standard Corsa, you're instead better off getting a decent panel filter such as a K&N or Pipercross one.

You shouldn't need to. The standard cold air intake to the standard airbox is absolutely fine.

Drilling the airbox is only for a slight noise when your foot is to the floor.

Re. the initial request - how to tell what your engine is....tell us the engine size and year of the car and it's pretty straightforward to work out, or post a photo of it.

Without knowing which engine yours is it's worth pointing out that the smaller engines can be unhappy with changes to the air intakes. Drilling the box doesn't cause a problem, but relocating the intake on the 1.0 12v engines (for example) often leads to issues. Best to check beforehand to see if anyone else has done it and what their experience has been.

    It's a z10xep.

And unfortunately it's really not worth trying to get more power out of it.
You'll get a nice induction noise if you drill and derestricted it though.

Only if you drill it so as to allow hot air into the intake - that will make it run poorly and increase fuel consumption. So make sure any holes you drill only admit cool air. Personally I'd leave it alone - but them I'm a boring old fart (but my cars tend to run for huge mileages without any problems).

My one's had quite a lot drilled out and I get better mileage than the book states. Not bad for a 17 year old car.

That wasn't meant to read as though my car achieves better mileage as a direct result from drilling my airbox. I was merely stating that my fuel efficiency hasn't seemed to be directly effected by drilling my airbox.
