eBay - sold item but 2 months later buyer reports it not working

Hey peeps, I sold my old amp a few months back and got good feedback on 05/06/13 for it. They're now saying it's blown up within a week of them using it despite only running it lightly.
Now the unit is under a year old but the warranty void sticker is damaged as the company I bought it from (Car Audio Security) had the case off for the unit to be on display. They said to me that they would cover the warranty but I lost any proof of that.

Now the guy has messaged me, I know it was working and he knows it was working for a while before blowing, I'm trying to give him information on possibly getting CAS to look into it but I don't want to be involved. Am I likely to see a Paypal case? Is he able to raise one even though it wasn't advertised to include warranty (Vibe Black Box Bass 1 Mono Amplifier | eBay)

Basically, am I obliged to do anything? Or can I just say "look, I've given you everything I have, there is nothing more I can do - sorry"?

Private sale, you have no legal requirement to do anything

What's to say he wasn't using it incorrectly and broke it himself, or dropped it when removing from car or something. Not your problem tbh. It's either 60 or 90 days to
Open a case if its 60 you may just about be ok

Is there a time limit for a buyer to open a case?
Generally, buyers have 45 days from payment to open a case—the same as with the current PayPal dispute resolution system. Exceptions may be made to buyers based on factors such as member account information, listing information, item location, and shipping method. You'll be asked to work things out with the buyer, but if you're unable to come to an agreement, we won't require reimbursement from you for cases filed after 45 days from payment.

Cool, well I'm trying to help him get it sorted but yeah I can't imagine it blew itself, I ran it at 1250w RMS @1 Ohm (the most power it can output) for a good 9 months without issue.

I'd imagine he or a friend turned it up too much or something. If you did something silly and it went pop, of course your always going to say "I only ever ran it at 50%, honest guv!!"

If I were you I'd tell him to just ring CAS. I've dealt with them before and they're helpful, I'm sure if they have record of the sale they'll have record of you saying the case was opened. And as its in a year, I'm sure they'll be fine about it tbh....

Think Paypal disputes for refunds need to be raised in the first 30 days IIRC but it's a long time since i checked.

Even so it would be unreasonable from their point to refund something 2 months after purchase after claiming it failed in the first week. Why didn't they report it then?
As Tim mentioned, private sale also. Was working when sold, not your problem now.

Forgot to mention my quote came from the eBay help pages, and refers to PayPal currently as well, so should be fairly reliable.

Well no case has been raised so I think it'll be OK, was more of a 'what if'
