    2nd Fuse Box Installation

So with the installation of my new seats, my electric sunroof, my amp and soon some foot well lights also... I'm thinking of adding a 2nd fuse box behind the glovebox.

I plan to take the feed direct from battery, and then earth everything as close to the item as possible.

The seats are obviously switched, so they'll never be on perm, footwell lights again will be on a switch and save with amp.

Does this sound like it'll work? Or have I missed something?

Too much hassle, the original fuse box should have enough spare ways.

How's it hassle? The grommit to the engine bay is directly beside where I want it to go.... and If I have to run wires to the existing one, why not just run them somewhere fresh? also, there's only 2 spare fuse gaps in my box.

I just need to know whether I have the wiring idea correct or whether I've missed something...

ok, then it is now time for you to ask yourself a few questions. what gauge of cable are you going to use? what kind of power do the devices you are putting in require? what is the length of run of the circuits and the desired path?

What relevance does that have? My question isn't related to any of that....

Cable doesn't need to be anything massive, probably 8 gauge, possibly 6...

8 is what I had powering my 800w amp with my sub and never had any problems, that was a bundle kit.
Devices don't require anything power hogging... people normally run the electric sunroof of the interior light wiring but I want it fused, so just gonna run it to this
LED Footwells - Well they're LED's, they draw hardly any power at all
Seats, again normally powered of 12v socket... so will easily cope of a 8guage feed from the battery...

It's not like all of this is going to be in use at the same time either...

So back to my original question please

that is the question I answered, I told you what you may have missed. fyi, heated/electric seats are up there with heated screens & head lights as power consumers. I was just trying to point out that there is more to it that chucking a load of wire at a car and hoping it works. do it wrong and you will have gooey wires everywhere, popped fuses and even possibly a flat battery.

You're correct yes, however, that isn't a problem.. I have worked it out.

All I wanted to know was whether it's a good idea. Realisically, yes existing fuse box would be better, however, it's a pig to remove, no space to work and only two empty slots. At least with a new box, it's easily reachable, easy to see and wire up, I know what's going where and means everything can be fused properly instead of just tapping in like people normally do.

Tbh, I think I'm gonna go for the second box option. Just gives a bit more flexibility in terms of adding stuff, and will keep everything safe and neat also

Nah not neons. I'm adopting a similar thing to the new ford comfort lighting. Had it in my ex's old car and makes driving at night so much nicer. Nothing bright, just little led's that light up footwells, cubby holes etc - makes it much nicer and is only a glow
