Both ideas are good, it almost sounds like we are in the 21st century.

If paying by direct debit you'll have to pay an extra 5%

This would have happened sooner if it wasn't for the police. It takes away and easy revenue stream for them, fining people for not displaying a tax disc.

I think that's acceptable, you always pay more for insurance when paying monthly - it's not so different.

Direct debit will be a god send.

And not having to display will make my windscreen look neater lol.

Strictly speaking - road tax will continue (and will increase in cost) - all they're scrapping is the paper disc, which police haven't used in years anyway.

Slightly miffed as I enjoy having 'Historic' on the Viva and 'Nil' in the price box. I shall however continue to display a disc in the Viva just because it looks better.

    I'm not. 5% on 500 is a joke.

I wonder how much extra revenue DVLA or the Police might generate when people's direct debits fail or bounce without them knowing.

Best news is no more tacky alloy tax disc holders

Thing is you always pay more for two 6 month tax discs than you do for one 12 month, so will the 5% be on 12 month price since if so it isn't to bad.

There current tax based system is ridiculous but that is another topic

Also Lee you can still pay for 12 months in one go so won't have to pay the 5%

Do you not feel robbed, knowing Lee has double the horsepower and yet pays the same tax, same fuel and less oil

Also my Evo cost less than 120 (or there abouts) to tax for 6 months

So the 5‰ is only if you spread the payments?

Yes, this is not to say the tax won't be hiked again in April though...

Also nice to see the Tory party now changing my retirement age, again, to 70+...
